Turning speech into text costs money every single time it runs. So does keeping the Inspiration feed working for someone with years of notes. The rest — writing, searching, keywords, the reading plan — costs almost nothing, so it is free.
These features are used a lot, so they come with a small monthly fee to help cover data processing. You can cancel any time, from your own settings, without asking anybody.
No surprises
While you are on the free plan, the app shows you where you stand — "6 of 15 voice minutes used" — rather than letting you run into a wall unannounced. Nothing you have already written is ever locked away, on any plan.
